Whether it is for the school musical, or something with greater risks, all youth actors have to audition. Since they are not grown ups, with adequate experience, selecting the correct material for their audition can be tough. These audition tips can come in handy before your next auditions for teens process. Auditions for teens can be difficult. Try and find plays with younger roles. Absent that, look for adult roles that do a lecture that could seem to come from a younger actor.
Be careful when selecting over-emotional parts. Make sure that your young actor can identify with the topics being spoken about. If not, dump it and find a new part. Almost all auditions for teens have time limitations on their audition pieces (usually between 2-5 minutes depending on whether they are seeing 1 or 2 parts per audition). Make sure that the prospective parts are not too short or too long. Have your teen actor read them aloud at performance pace and time them with the stopwatch. Few 2 or 3 character scenes make great audition material because speaking directly to different characters is already built into the dialogue. Just make sure that when you take out the line from the unnecessary roles, the piece makes sense.
Have your teen execute the selected material for a teacher or acting coach. Have them criticize it. If they say it probably isn't the right way to go, chuck it. This is why you should have different choices. Once the final conclusion has been made, let them work on it themselves. It will only be fertile if they enjoy acting out the part.
